Writing Love

Writing a book is hard.

It's physically, mentally, and emotionally draining.

You pour your heart into it, you exhaust your mind, you stay up late until the words blur together then you wake up early the next morning just to get that extra hour of writing in.

It's time consuming.

It's frustrating.

So then, why do we do it?

For the fame? (Yeah, right)

For the money? (You've got to be kidding)

We do it because-- get this-- we love it.

I'm still trudging through revisions. It's a pain. It's aggravating. But despite all that... I truly love what I'm doing. I love writing. I love the hard parts. I love pushing myself. I even love those fleeting moments when I feel like I might want to give up, because I know I could never give up, even at the lowest low. And realizing that just inspires me more.

We do all this because we seriously love writing.

There would be no point to put ourselves through it if we didn't.

  1. Exactly.

You wouldn't do it for any other reason.

    Keep at it--you're a star!

  2. Writing comes with such exhlleration. It's all self-motivated because no one tells us to do it and often people don't believe we can, so you have to love it to keep going!

  3. It can be crazy and frustrating and we definitely need breaks from it from time to time, but yeah. We do it because we love it. Otherwise, we're complete lunatics, and I'm not sure we're quite ready to accept that. ;)

  4. Dangerous -- I have to disagree with that! I totally own up to the fact that I'm a little nutso! But I love every second of it, even when I want to burn every page I've written and be normal.

I've said it before, but it becomes more true every day: Without writing, I wouldn't know who I was.

  5. I completely agree with you. Thanks for phrasing it like this. I write because writing is my own form of exercise, both an artistic and mental stimulation, and I wouldn't give it up for the world.

Good luck with revisions - I look forward to the day I can read about your superheroes.

  6. Here's a virtual shoulder rub and a fresh cup of coffee (my own special drip).

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Keep at it!

  8. I like this post. :P It's hard to remember that you love writing sometimes; it feels like it's gonna drive you insane. But really, it is great. It's nice to be reminded of that.
