Usually time helps because it gives you a chance to really reflect on everything you've written up to this point. I'm notoriously bad with endings...and beginnings. No grand finale, no great speeches, just an ending. I don't think its too bad to let the reader imagine or extrapolate from what is on the page, as long as you've put in enough good content before that. Everything is dependent though, on how well you developed the story up to that point.
